La Merce is Barcelona's biggest festival of the year. It began on Thursday, September 22 and ended Sunday, September 25. It is full of historical and cultural dances, fireworks, food and wine tastings, runs of fire, fountain shows, circuses, concerts, etc. It was awesome!
My weekend panned out like this:
Thursday night I saw the beginning ceremony of the festival:
Huge HUGE figures of kings, queens, etc during the parade with music!
An orchesta that plays once a year- right here in this pic!
My Friday night: so many concerts at this HUGE venue "The Forum". This is the metro to the forum, I feel bad for real sardines.
Spanish boysss look about in high school? They "LOVE Washington DC" so they're awesome :)
Saturday: Exploring Barca with Molly
Barcelona's Polo Stadium: Horse Racing time!
Ah! Miss riding horses :(
Always a good accordion player on the metro.
Sunday, my favorite day! These are the Castellers, they are teams of people who build human towers as a sport/tradition in Barcelona. Very amusing and also dangerous! They go as high as eight stories!
The blue was definitely my favorite/ the best. They reached an all-time record height!
Architecture is beautiful :)
Tram time up to Montjuic- The historical castle!
Circus time!
My colorful popcorn- DELISH
The view :)
cool fountain
Make A Wish!
The Gates of Hell / Correfoc is a run of fire, where fire breathing dragons and devils parade/run through the streets shooting off fireworks and HUGE sparklers! They literally shoot it in the street on the people. We were warned to wear protective clothing. I have never seen anything like this in my life.
Firework show with music- best fireworks i've seen!
Metro ride back home- I got bread on my head but don't call me a bread head.
So strange.
